Derek’s connection to Squamish runs deep having grown up in the community, he’s witnessed firsthand the town’s transformation.

He has owned and operated Next Gen Contracting for over 12 years, building the company on long-term relationships, reputation, and accountability. With over 20 years in construction and part of multiple locally owned businesses, Derek brings both hands-on experience and leadership to every project. Whether coordinating behind the scenes or on site with a tool belt, he remains actively involved from planning to completion.

Outside of work, Derek enjoys cooking, long motorcycle tours, and spending time outdoors, the same lifestyle that keeps him connected to the community he builds for.

Whether behind the scenes, or on site wearing a tool belt, you can expect Derek to be involved in every aspect of your project.

SENIOR CARPENTER

Alan has been a core part of Next Gen Contracting for nearly eight years. Originally from Ontario, he chose Squamish for its natural beauty and the lifestyle it offers, and quickly became an integral part of the team.

Known for his patience and precision, Alan specializes in finish carpentry where attention to detail matters most. His calm, methodical approach ensuring the final product.

When he’s not on site, Alan spends his time cooking, exploring the backcountry, and with family.

SENIOR CARPENTER

Justin’s experience spans more than three decades building high-end homes throughout the Sea to Sky corridor. With deep family roots in the trades, he was introduced to carpentry early, working alongside his father framing high end homes across Sea to Sky and the North Shore.

That lifelong immersion in the craft shows in his efficiency and confidence — the kind that only comes from years of repetition and dedication. His understanding of residential construction makes him a steady presence on even the most complex projects.

Justin is passionate about exploring cultures, camping and creating memories with friends and family.

APPRENTICE CARPENTER

Joel grew up in Squamish and joined Next Gen shortly after graduating high school. Over time he’s developed a reputation for patience, focus, and a thoughtful approach to problem-solving.

Joel shows the characteristics of a leader, delegating and leading by example for our newer members of the team.

Outside the job site, Joel enjoys fishing, working on cars, and collecting Pokémon cards.

CARPENTER (Honourable Mention)

Chris joined Next Gen Contracting nearly 11 years ago through a carpenter apprenticeship placement, and quickly became a cornerstone of the company’s growth and consistency.

He developed experience across nearly every area of construction, allowing him to move seamlessly between disciplines. His reliability and work ethic played a meaningful role in shaping the standards the company operates by today.

Chris recently relocated to the Okanagan, leaving big boots to fill, and we wish him the very best in what comes next. Outside of work, he enjoys soccer, hunting, and long weekends at the cabin.
